Germ Guardian AC4825 Air Purifier
GermGuardian Technologies Air Purifiers cater for the low end market of air purifier users!
One could classify these air purifiers as mass market aimed, due to their price and durability, and they would be right.
Most people buy entry level air purifiers out of curiosity and as a novelty.
At this price level, the motivation’s even greater.
That said, does the GermGuardian AC4825 Air Purifier meet the sniff test of being an effective air purifier to rid your home of allergens and pollutants that are causing your respiratory problems?
Is This Air Purifier Good to Go for the Whole House?
The first thing you’ll notice when you unbox this unit is its appearance. This is clearly a premium air purifier, even if it could be a little smaller and draw a little less attention to itself.
The unit is 22 inches high and decked out entirely in black and silver with just a thin, cyan ribbon around the top.
The shape is somewhat rounded and there’s a large vent on the back which takes up the majority of the height of the device.
This air purifier looks very good overall and has a futuristic look and feel – not unlike the obelisk from 2001: Space Odyssey!
Whether you like it or not is a matter of taste but, if you’re not a fan of this design, it should be fairly easy to hide behind an item of furniture.
According to the user manual, the Clean Air Delivery Rating (CADR) in this unit is upwards of 100; and can purify rooms of up to 150 sq ft.
However, based on negative sentiments from verified buyers of this unit, 150sq ft is a tad too large a room, that’s because CADR ratings are optimally effective up to about 2/3rd the room size you are looking to use the purifier in.
However, because this GermGuardian air purifier comes with some extra power (photocatalytic oxidizer) I would allow for at least 1.2sq ft/CADR.
Which would make my calculations for the AC4825 unit to be more effective in up to 125sq ft of space – a smallish room at that!
What We Love About this Unit
This model’s one of the few in its price range of less than $100 with a true HEPA filter.
HEPA filters are guaranteed to remove air particles as small as 0.3 microns with 99.97% accuracy and are overseen by the US Department of Energy for their effectiveness.
The Germ Guardian AC4825 is one of the newest air purifiers with an all digital user interface from this manufacturer; the unit performs well and sound levels are acceptable at higher speeds and very quiet at lower speeds.
The danger with tower air purifiers is whether they’re completely sealed to force all the dirty air through the filter, allowing no room for pollutants to escape through cracks.
There are very few tightly sealed air purifiers in the $100 price range, and thankfully the AC4825 air purifier is one of them!
This is an amazing and effective tower air purifier for the budget conscious. Would make for a great first air purifier if you’ve never used one.
What’s more, these towers do a good job of shielding the UV light with no ozone.
