Winix 5500-2 Air Purifier Review
When it comes to air purifiers, it’s difficult to know precisely what one’s price point is!
I mean, do we just review air purifiers for the budget conscious, or do we go gung-ho and promote ones with all bells and whistles, budget be damned?
So, in our approach, we’ve endeavored to review mostly entry level and affordable purifiers – whatever that means to you, will depend on which air conditioner you end up purchasing.
We’re by no means attempting to insult you by promoting what you may perceive as “cheap” or too expensive air conditioners, price is relative after all, and your angst’s unique to you and your household!
That said, our last review of whole house air purifiers we’ve tested is of the Winix 5300-2 Air Cleaner – considered to be a high end unit.
High end in terms of design, functionality and ease of use.
According to the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM), this unit has a CADR (Clean Air Delivery Rate) rating of 360 sq. ft.
Korean built, this unit is built like a Toyota; it’ll continue to run long after you and are are gone.. hand it down the family tree if you must, there’s a new name in the air purification business!
Introduced to the US market shortly after the so called “mold rush” when building contractors embraced “energy saving” building construction which lacked proper ventilation such as windows, thus causing a spiral in respiratory related illnesses in homes, Winix PlasmaWave entered the market to shake things up a lot with an oxidizing air cleaning system with True HEPA Filtration which captures 99.97% of 0.3 micron particles priced at half the cost of the nearest rivals, without sacrificing on quality!
Winix was the sole reason Sharp went out of business with their plasmaclusters!
These Koreans mean business I tell ya!
Winix runs quietly, plus it features an air quality sensor – the kind of feature that usually only shows up on much more expensive air purifiers.
With over 1.300 amazon buyer reviews averaging 4.4 stars, it’s easy to see why the Winix 5300 is thebest value in terms of long-term and price-performance ratio.
You will not be disappointed to grab this!
The first layer of defense within this unit begins with particles being captured by the pre-filter, a carbon sheet filter which protects against VOCs, household odors, pets and smoke. The 99.97% True HEPA filter captures allergens – pollen / dust / pet dander / smoke / microbes and mold spores.
Intervals between replacing air filters may vary depending on the level of pollutants in your household.
Optimal substitution recommends that the carbon filter be replaced once every three months; while the True HEPA filter will last up to twelve.
Neither the carbon filter, nor the True HEPA filter, can be washed.
lightweight, aesthetically pleasing to the eye and modern looking, trusted by millions, these are just features that describe this true whole house air purifier whose price-to-performance ratio cannot be beat!
If you’re a user of the previous model; the Winix 5300, then you’ll know what you’re getting yourself into here. You simply will not be disappointed!
